Torn Flesh Records Presents Brutally Honest Music - Review
Not so much a review as a list of songs that stuck out to me. Each one has a little bit written about it, so please check 'em out. Overall, definetly listen to this album. It has something for everyone, from pure brutality to serene string instrumentals. Torn Flesh Records. Love it or leave it. Regardless, it's as it should be. Music is good, and what's good should be free. Spread the music. Cheers!
Brutally Honest Music (Intro) - Hvile I Khaos & Torn Flesh Records
Cool little intro, catchy riff, and nice strings. Sounds like a cello? Short and to the point.
Aller Sans Retour - Nippercreep
Good groove, pretty basic drums, and the vocals are rough, but still understandable. Some riffs sound almost black metal in style.
Eat Tacos, Kick Babies - Tacomaniacx
Electronic. Pretty much sums it up. And blast beats. Still, can't go wrong with a name like "Tacomaniacx."
Oak - Autolatry
Black metal, but pretty full sound opposed the stereotypical scratchy treble sound of bands like Mayhem. The bass is good, decent vocals, and the song actually feels like it goes somewhere. It has a cool solo part with some acoustic instruments in the back.
Up the Stakes - Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight
More groovy riffs on this track. Not exactly happy, but somehow it just energizes you. The vocalist reminds me of Ozzy Osbourne.
For the Love of Pathology - Apoplexy
Descriptive intro. Sounds kind of like something taken from a medical class. Anyway, blast beats and a brutal death metal feel. Powerful, the bass guitar and the guitar are one. Melodic in parts, but heavy overall.
Shadows - Embers
An old favorite. The lyrics provided on the mp3 are nice, and the music is good. A little slow for my taste, but still enough to keep your interest. The intensity builds throughout the song, as the vocals trade off with the instrumental.
Into the Future - Hammerspace
Nerd metal. Freakin' awesome. It sound epic, electronic, tinny, yet full. The vocalist is understandable, the drums are good, the riffs are catchy, and the song just takes you into another world.
Without the Sun - Throne of Malediction
A slow doom/black metal feel. Deep power chords below the occasional high soaring lead. Good solo to change it up a bit.
The Dying Gasps of a Once Proud Eagle - Hvile I Khaos
Perhaps my favorite track on the whole album. A string masterpiece, and a total contrast to all the other pieces upon this album. Light, yet intense. A bit on the lengthy side, but worth every second.
Crime Scene - Deep Coma
Intense, brutal, and you can only understand parts of it vocally. Blast beats and chugging riffs, along with screams, grunts, snarls, and growls complete this song.
Plata o Plomo - Six In Line
Really nice bass. Very clear sound. Simple drums, but very clear. Also, has a good vocalist, with a scream/shout vocal style.
Asymmetric Stumps - Johan
The drums sound computerized, and the riffs are totally distorted. Vocals are processed, and yet despite all this, the song is listenable. Combined, it makes a wall of sound with a lead guitar wailing above it. The overall sound is very bass heavy, although it does benefit from the best of both worlds.
Extreme Abductions - Engorged With Decadence
Simple riff, completed with the sound of the fingers sliding upon the strings. Brutal, pig squeal vocals, with grunts, though with surprising clarity for the chosen style. The drummer is either very good, or a computer. Regardless, the drums provide a solid backing to the chugging riffs of the guitar.
Search for Sunken R'lyeh - Bound by Entrails
An overall epic song with an obvious sense of progression. The music tells a story, and you can get a grasp of the emotion just from the instrumental. Intensity, loud and thunderous, mixed with delicate, soft arpeggios make this song complete.
Mutation Worship - Pestilent Decay
Upbeat and loud. The feeling goes from fast to slow, rapid riffs to a slow chugging.
Guts Full of Vermin - Chainsaw
Brutal death metal at its finest. The drums have a great sound, and the riffs are deep, slurred together. Above them a little lead, not to high but comprehendable. Plus, an awesome band name. Simplicity is good.
Crocodile Cock - Perverse Imagery
I'll be honest; I just liked the saxophone solo.
Rosebud - Mother Brain
Interesting what words you can and can't understand. Listen and you'll know what I mean.
Discipline of the Flesh Sculptor - Bukowski Family
Don't remember why I never listened to this band. Solid drumming, deep riffage, and the vocalist is pretty good too.
Distance - War Injun
Similar sounding drums to those is "Guts Full of Vermin." Anyway, bassy, chill, and groovy riffs. Something to just sit back and listen to cause you can. Clean vocals too, not to mention the little solo towards the end.
